The Serrería Belga Cultural Space has reclaimed 690 m2 of space that was being used as offices, warehouses and machine rooms to accommodate new cultural activities, thus giving the people of Madrid an additional 26% of new space in which to enjoy new cultural offerings, including an entire floor for art exhibitions and a large area dedicated to poetry and literature and Madrid’s the role as a literary capital throughout the centuries.

Creative Industries, reinforcing Madrid's status as a cultural capital by being a veritable culture factory that facilitates innovative cultural projects. It is also intended to be a meeting place for cultural agents of reference, acting as a host centre for artists and professionals in the cultural sector. It also has a third purpose: to be a cultural projection centre, hosting exhibitions that showcase the extensive artistic and historical catalogues of the municipal collections and other relevant public and private institutions in Madrid with which the Centre has established alliances aimed at boosting the city’s cultural dynamism.

Of all the cultural buildings that make up the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk), part of the Landscape of Light declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serrería Belga (The Belgian Sawmill) Cultural Space is the only one that belongs to the City Council. With a surface area of almost 4,000 square metres, it occupies a unique industrial building from the early 20th century, whose refurbishment has won numerous awards.
